This West African rhythm is the most well known, and widely travelled, of all the 12/8 bell patterns and is internationally known by its Cuban name Bembé. In the US it's commonly known as the 6/8 bell, or standard bell pattern.
 
This Bembé wheel/cycle (from the Beats Exotiques book) depicts the standard Bembé pattern and then offsets it by one beat in 12 different ways to form different rhythms (often known by different names). On the reverse is a brief history & cultural information (& the wicked logo!)
